About the Firm |
Yarmuth Wilsdon Calfo is a firm of dedicated trial lawyers located in Seattle. Our practice consists of trial and appellate work, arbitrations and mediations, and counsel and advice — in both civil and white-collar criminal cases. Our clients include large corporations that have chosen us for complex, high-stakes litigation — and individuals who rely upon our lawyers for personal counsel and advice. Our practice is national in scope. We litigate and try cases in state and federal courts in Washington state and throughout the nation.
We have no corporate department, so every client engagement begins with a recommendation or referral from another lawyer, law firm or client. A list of some of our clients can be found under Representative Clients.
We believe that we regularly out-perform larger groups of adverse attorneys — in results achieved, quality of performance, and in the cost effectiveness of our efforts.
Our lawyers are outstanding in their education, training and performance. Several were federal prosecutors, several worked in large national law firms, and many served as law clerks to prominent federal judges. Our lawyers are practical and effective problem solvers, have substantial courtroom experience and have tried scores of cases to conclusion in federal and state courts throughout the nation. Information regarding the backgrounds and experience of our attorneys can be found under Attorney Profiles.
The firm’s practice consists primarily of:
- Commercial & Civil Litigation — with emphasis on complex matters,
including securities fraud, partnership and shareholder
issues, contract actions, health care fraud and employment
litigation. We have also represented
several major law firms as litigation counsel when
those firms were themselves parties to litigation.
- Intellectual Property Litigation — in the fields of anti-piracy, copyright, trademark and trade secret cases. Since 1996 we have acted as national anti-piracy counsel to DIRECTV. We also represent Microsoft, the Motion Picture Association of America, the Recording Industry Association of America, and News Corp. in on-going anti-piracy matters.
- White Collar Criminal Defense — we defend businesses and individuals accused of white collar crimes, including federal grand jury practice, corporate investigations and other responses to government enforcement activity. Recent corporate clients have included The Boeing Company, Olympic Pipeline Company (a BP/Shell subsidiary), BP Energy Canada, and Vostok 1 Fishing Kolhoz (a Russian seafood processing company). We have also represented executives and other employees from companies including Texaco, KPMG, W.R. Grace, Food Services of America and Carnival Corporation.
- Whistleblower or “Qui Tam” Litigation — we defend companies under civil investigation for government program fraud, often based upon allegations by their employees or former employees. We also defend litigation by employees alleging retaliation for whistleblowing activity under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act or the False Claims Act. Recent clients include IDX Systems Corporation, Premera Blue Cross and Cell Therapeutics, Inc.
