John's practice focuses on complex civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense. He has represented clients in a wide range of civil matters in state and federal courts and arbitration forums, including commercial contract disputes, broker-dealer regulation and other areas of securities-related litigation, intellectual property piracy cases, employment matters, construction litigation, and professional negligence cases. John also has extensive experience defending individual and corporate clients facing potential criminal charges and prosecutions.

John has tried more than thirty jury trials in state and federal court, including securities fraud claims, constitutional law and civil rights violations, employment cases, and felony criminal matters; he has tried over fifty non-jury cases before federal, state and administrative law judges; and he has presented over twenty-five cases as lead counsel in arbitrations before the New York Stock Exchange, National Association of Securities Dealers, the American Arbitration Association, and various state-appointed arbitration panels.

John has also been active in appellate work, having briefed and argued appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the D.C. Circuit, the Virginia Court of Appeals, and the Virginia Supreme Court. In addition, he has appeared on brief in the Fourth Circuit, the D.C. Court of Appeals, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, and the Maryland Court of Appeals.

Before joining Yarmuth Wilsdon Calfo, John practiced law in Garvey Schubert Barer’s litigation section in both Washington, D.C. and Seattle. Prior to that, John was a partner in a litigation firm in Washington, D.C. He also worked as an Assistant Public Defender in Virginia.

John graduated from George Washington University Law School in 1987, and received his undergraduate degree, cum laude, in English Literature from St. Lawrence University.
