| Anti-piracy litigation — The firm's anti-piracy practice includes directing the North American civil litigation efforts for DIRECTV and News Corp. (News Datacom Ltd., NDS Americas, Inc. and NDS Limited) with respect to satellite signal theft, counterfeiting and related issues. The firm also represents Microsoft, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) in piracy matters, as well as Sky Latin America in connection to piracy matters in South America. Scott Wilsdon, who regularly consults on security and piracy issues, heads the firm's anti-piracy practice. |
| Copyright, licensing and trademark litigation — The firm represents technology clients in the areas of copyright and trademark law. Recent clients include Lindows.com, which the firm successfully represented in a widely followed trademark case brought by Microsoft. |
| Entertainment litigation — The firm has represented the MPAA for more than 30 years in motion picture distribution, copyright and antitrust cases. The firm has also handled a variety of entertainment matters, including music and literary disputes. Examples include the firm’s lead role in separate litigations involving the rights to the music of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. |
| Trade secrets and employment litigation — The firm represents technology clients on trade secrets and related employment issues. Clients have included venture capital groups, e-commerce and software companies, and individuals engaged in wide variety of technology related businesses. Recent litigation includes the firm's representation of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers in a widely reported trade secret case involving Amazon.com and Wal-Mart. The firm also represents businesses and individuals in the area of non-competition agreements and other employment related issues. |
