Angelo Calfo is recognized as one of the Northwest's leading trial lawyers. With his experience litigating commercial and civil matters, and his investigative and trial work as a former federal prosecutor, Angelo has the background to try cases of all varieties. He is listed as one of the top 100 lawyers in Washington State in business litigation and white collar criminal defense by Washington Law & Politics magazine, and as one of the top five white collar criminal defense lawyers and litigators in the 2006 Chambers & Partners USA Report.
Angelo's cases include his successful defense of IDX Systems Corporation (a subsidiary of GE Healthcare) in civil litigation (and in related government investigations) brought under the False Claims and Sarbanes-Oxley legislation (Leon v. IDX Systems Corporation, 464 F.3d 951 (9th Cir. 2006)); he is currently defending a W.R. Grace senior manager in one of the most significant criminal environmental prosecutions in size and scope ever brought by the U.S. Justice Department (United States v. W.R. Grace et al., D. Montana); he represented Olympic Pipe Line Company (a joint venture of three publicly-traded oil and transportation companies) in wrongful death litigation, commercial litigation and related environmental criminal prosecutions arising from a major gasoline pipeline leak and explosion that resulted in three deaths (Equilon Pipeline LLC v. Olympic Pipe Line Company, et al. (W.D. Wash) and United States v. Olympic Pipe Line Company et al. (W.D. Wash); and he is presently representing leading technology companies in trade secret, copyright and intellectual property litigation (for example, FMC Technologies et al. v. Processing Equipment Solutions et al. (W.D. Wash).

  • Okeanos Gas Gathering Company LLC: Current representation of this BP and Enbridge Energy-owned natural gas pipeline in government investigation and related commercial litigation arising out of alleged violations of the National Preservation Act during construction of a Gulf of Mexico transportation line.
Angelo began law practice at Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco in the firm's commercial litigation department. He later served for eight years as an Assistant United States Attorney in Seattle, where he managed federal grand jury investigations and prosecuted and tried numerous criminal matters involving taxation, and relating to the aerospace, banking and securities industries. While a federal prosecutor, Angelo received separate awards from the U.S. Attorney General, the U.S. Postal Service and the Internal Revenue Service for excellence in fraud and other economic crime prosecutions. Angelo was a lecturer on trial practice for the U.S. Attorney General's Advocacy Institute.
Angelo graduated magna cum laude in 1986 from Santa Clara University, School of Law, where he was Research Editor of the Santa Clara Law Review and an extern to United States District Judge William A. Ingram. Angelo received his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Loyola-Marymount University of Los Angeles in 1983.
Angelo has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Matt Talbot Center, a nonprofit drug and alcohol recovery center offering services to homeless men and women, located in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle.
